Vienna´s Univeristäts Campus, an urban oasis

Even the most convinced urbanist and city tiger will have his/her moments of street satiety. In Vienna, one of the most gorgeous green spaces is located in the 9 th. district, not far from the University and Ringstraße.
I talk (yeah well, I write) about Universitätscampus at Alser Straße / Lange Gasse.

It´s an accumulaton of several [...]

Naschmarkt!

Alright, call me posh, but I like Naschmarkt in Vienna. It is one of the few places in Vienna to get real ethnical edibles and ready made food.
But still, Naschmarkt is full of Viennese singularity.. I mean, I haven´t seen another market that has a stall only selling “Essiggurken und Champagnerkraut” (pickled gherkins and champagne-Sauerkraut). [...]

Snow in Vienna

Just two impressions from the snow capped Sigmund Freud Park in Vienna today. So good to have a cell-camera!

Besides, I like snow

Big downturner, Café Ritter

While looking for new jeans I stumbled over an old traditional viennes coffeehouse in the middle of the lively Mariahiflerstraße. Café Ritter is situated in the middle of this shopping street in a wonderfull, splendid house from the 19th century.
The café is one large, L-shaped room with a high, stucko panneled cieling. So it could [...]

Oz-Cinethek in Vienna

As someone being interested in films I find it hard to find good, classic films. Most video shops don´t have films like “Dr. Stranglove”. What´s more, it´s even hard finding them on the internet.
Happily, I found a video shop with exactly this choice, and they even serve great coffe. It´s the Oz – Cinethek in [...]

Café Sperl, actually with fine coffee

At last, I found an old, traditional viennese “Kaffeehaus” which serves good coffee, it´s the Café Sperl in Gumpendorferstraße 11.
Café Sperl is located near to the Naschmarkt (a marketplace which I should portrait very soon), infamous shopping-mekka Mariahilferstraße and the inner city of Vienna.
The Café itself, as you can see on the picture, is kept [...]

Coffee at Café Central? Forget it…

Recently I´ve been to the Café Central in Wien Herrengasse for the first time. Of course, I was anxious to see the famous interior of the café that housed famous people like Sigmund Freud, Arthur Schnitzler and Leo Trotzki. And I was anxious tasting the coffee…
Well, as I have already written in another post, the [...]

My “the-15-minutes-before-I-go-to-work” heroes…

Once again a post about the endless search of good coffee in Vienna. But this time the search was victorious…
One very important good point about working in the downtown of a city is the high concentration of stores seeling good food and drinks..
Luckily I found a coffee-shop 5 minutes away from my work with exquisite [...]

Coffee in Vienna

One of the best sides of Vienna are, no doubt about that, the coffeehouses, BUT, one of the worst sides of Vienna is the coffee served in most coffeehouses…
As a guy grown up near the italian border, I´m used to have high quality coffee – mild, creamy, strong – in many different versions – cappuccino, [...]
